Save Cannock’s Heritage and Culture

The Prince of Wales Theatre and the Museum of Cannock Chase hold a special place in the hearts of many residents of Cannock and surrounding areas. The theatre, with its rich history, has been a beacon of cultural enlightenment for countless generations in a town often found lacking in such opportunities. For many, this cherished institution offers the only local access to the arts. The Museum of Cannock Chase transcends its role as a mere repository of artefacts. It is a beloved destination, attracting visitors across different age groups and backgrounds.

Sadly, in November 2024, residents learnt that Cannock District Council planned to permanently close both venues.

Cannock, already a victim to deprivation, cannot bear the loss of these two jewels of community significance. The closure of these amenities would not only deny the people of Cannock the enjoyment of art and history, but it would further the town’s decline and strip it of its cultural identity. Moreover, it would severely impact the health and well-being of residents, depriving them of the intrinsic benefits to mental and physical health gained from engaging in arts and cultural activities. The closure would also dismantle vital creative health programs that have served vulnerable communities for decades, leaving a significant gap in crucial support services.
