The Cabinet will consider the feedback from the consultation in more depth at it’s meeting on 30 January when it will decide what to include in the budget to be recommended to Council. Council will meet on 12 February to make a final decision on whether the Museum and Theatre will close.

The public consultation was opened by Cannock Chase District Council.

6pm a CCDC Cabinet meeting at the Civic Centre was held. Lots of people gathered before the start of the meeting to show their support against the proposed closures.

Earlier in the day there had been a show of support outside the theatre and our plight reached local news outlets!

Children from Westhill Primary School were also involved and wrote letters to the local councillors

A petition called ‘Save The Museum of Cannock Chase – protect our mining heritage’ was set up on change.org. Again this quickly gained momentum achieving over 2,300 signatures and counting!
A community meeting was held with interested parties at Cannock Conservative Club. Representatives from Cannock Chase District Council, Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, Cannock Chase Arts Council, and a range of arts groups were present. Minutes / notes of this meeting can be found here.

A petition called ‘Save the Prince of Wales Theatre, Cannock’ was set up on Change.org. This quickly gained momentum achieving over 19,000 signatures and counting!
The ‘Save Cannock Chase Heritage & Culture’ and the ‘Save the Prince of Wales Theatre’ Facebook pages / groups were created.

The public became aware the Cannock Chase District Council are planning to close both the Prince of Wales Theatre and the Museum of Cannock Chase.
As news broke there was an instant outcry on social media with many sharing the CCDC’s Full Papers of the Cabinet meeting for 28/11/24. These can be found here
